Vironova AB (publ) is a privately held Swedish biotech company dedicated to the development of novel antiviral therapeutics and virus diagnostics products to combat and prevent the spread of viral diseases. Based on proprietary technology to analyze viruses in digital images acquired by transmission electron microscopy (TEM), Vironova also provides services for the pharmaceutical industry that is able to cut time and costs in viral related R&D and production of biologicals.
By employing cutting edge image analysis technology and TEM imaging- and virus expertise, Vironova provides unique capabilities to develop a potent class of antivirals, called maturation inhibitors, significantly faster and more cost effectively than the competition. A proof-of-concept has been shown by the rapid development of a lead compound (VN-180) against all eight human Herpes viruses. Two further projects similar to VN-180 have been initiated - one against Influenza and one against HIV.
Offered as software products, the platform technology provides automated identification of groups of viruses for which reliable diagnostic tools are lacking, e.g. viruses linked to bioterror and pandemics.
